Who else is sick & tired of their painfulTennis Elbow
|
|
Dear Brent:
A couple of months ago, I bought your DVD regarding the treatment of a Tennis Elbow injury I received from Muay Thai (Thailand-style kickboxing). I can safely say that buying this video was some of the best money I have ever spent. The cure and rehab instructions from my (very knowledgeable) orthopedic surgeon were not nearly as clear as those on your DVD. Not only that, I personally have a background in biomechanics and mechanisms of injury, and often testify as an expert witness in court in accident cases in litigation. I would not have thought of this approach.
Having previously had this same injury on the other arm twice in the
past -- lasting 18 months and 6 months, I know that Tennis Elbow can
literally go on forever if not properly treated.
The warm stretching started working for me immediately, and easily got me started into a range of motion that was otherwise incredibly painful. I experienced a complete cure of my very painful Tennis Elbow condition in about 6 weeks. I am now back to full-contact Thai pads and medium-contact sparring.
I highly recommend your approach and DVD product to the fellow
sufferers of tennis elbow. However, I stipulate that the Tennis Elbow
sufferer must be willing to commit to executing the program exactly
as you state, and as many times per day as you state.
Regards.

Tennis elbow is also commonly called golfer's elbow.
However, to be specific, golfer's elbow refers to the inside of your elbow (with the palm of your hand facing towards you), while tennis elbow refers to the outside of your elbow (with the palm of your hand facing away from you).
The treatment (healing, strengthening, & future injury prevention) for both of these injuries is the same.
Hi, Brent Abel here, and after 35 years of teaching tennis, I've seen hundreds of tennis elbow injuries.
And everyone wants the same thing.
"How do I get this thing
treated so I can get back to my activity
(sport, job, life, whatever)...?"
The so called quick fixes... Cortisone, tons of ibuprofen, anti-inflammatories, pain killers, etc., promise immediate relief. Blah, blah, blah...
And sometimes, sure, you get some immediate relief, but your tennis elbow injury seems to always flair up again.
You know what tennis elbow is, right...?
I'm not going to try to impress you with all of the Latin terms for the different body parts that are involved in tennis elbow. Let's make this simple...
You've got a tendon in your forearm that connects your forearm muscles to the bones in your elbow area.
Sometimes when you stress out those muscles, that tendon gets injured, and becomes inflamed (swollen).
You can stress out the muscles in generally one of 3 ways.
Repetitive stress. Over time you repeat the same slightly poor technique, or too much tension, whatever, but slight imperfections in your method (tennis, golf, hammering, lifting, etc.) will eventually cause the muscles to get stressed, and yep, the tendon gets inflamed. Ouch...
Traumatic event. You do something such as catch a ball "late" on a tennis shot and the muscles just can't handle the strain. The tendon goes nuts and again, ouch...
Poor strength. You take time off from your activity and do nothing to strengthen the muscles in your forearm while you're inactive, you go back out there, and sure enough, you're forearm isn't prepared for the activity, and here we go again, ouch...
So, the key here is Phase 1:
How do you "heal" the tendon...?
If you don't properly heal that injured tendon, you'll continue to have pain, and if you're like most folks, you'll find a way to go back out there with some goofy idea of why you can keep playing your sport or working.
And the chances are huge that
you'll end up doing major
damage to your elbow.
You MUST provide a healing environment for that tendon.
Injecting stuff into your arm, ingesting copious amounts of ibuprofen, or rubbing "magic" steroid cream on your elbow is NOT setting up a healing environment for your tendon to breathe and start to heal...
Setting up the healing environment for your elbow requires a combination of heat, stretching, and ice.
And a short time period of not doing the activity that brought you here. Short. Several days, not weeks, not months, but you know, a few days. Be smart.
Phase 2: Strengthening
Once that tendon is healed, you've got to go through a strengthening routine to make those forearm muscles stronger.
Not so you can squeeze tighter on your tennis racket or golf club or hammer or whatever, no, so those muscles can do a better job of absorbing impact and any forearm pronation or torque.
Phase 3: Future Tennis Elbow Prevention
And come on, can you give yourself 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after your sport or work activity to prevent another tennis elbow injury...? Of course you can.
This is not rocket science. The method for healing, strengthening, and future tennis elbow prevention is tangible and anyone can do this.

Hi Brent, I just wanted to write you a quick note to say thanks for helping me fix my tennis elbow injury. After two cortisone shots and hours of therapy at my fitness center, I was absolutely no better. I think it's been your icing technique that has made the biggest difference. By the way, I love your tennis newsletter. My elbow is fixed and now my serve is getting better too! Thanks again Brent. Patricia |
